At least 12 people died, and around 30 were injured on Tuesday after a speeding private bus lost control and crashed into a flyover wall in Rajasthan's Sikar district. The accident happened in Laxmangarh when the bus, traveling from Salasar, collided with the wing wall of the flyover as it took a turn, crushing the right side of the bus.
Inspector General Satyendra Choudhary confirmed, "Twelve people have died, and others have been seriously injured. Some have been taken to Jaipur for further treatment, while others are being treated at Sikar's SK Hospital." The police have begun investigating the cause of the accident.
According to Sikar Superintendent of Police Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav, the crowded bus was moving at high speed when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to smash into the wall of the flyover. A crane was later brought in to help rescue passengers trapped inside the wrecked bus. Tragically, the bus driver was among those who died instantly.
In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ₹2 lakh in compensation for the families of each victim and ₹50,000 for the injured. “The Prime Minister has provided ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund,” stated the PMO.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also expressed sorrow, saying, “The loss of lives in this accident is heartbreaking. My condolences are with the families who lost their loved ones. All injured are receiving proper medical care.”
Rajasthan Congress Chief Govind Singh Dotasra offered similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for quick support and treatment for the injured. “Our thoughts are with the families. We immediately contacted local officials to ensure the injured receive all necessary help,” he said.
