On Tuesday, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan stated that his party wanted to join forces with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. However, according to Pathan, the MVA alliance, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar's NCP (SP), did not respond to AIMIM's outreach.
Pathan explained that the AIMIM's Maharashtra President even wrote a letter suggesting they work together to challenge the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which consists of the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction, and the NCP led by Ajit Pawar. “We wanted to join hands to defeat the BJP, but they showed no interest. We reached out, but they didn’t contact us,” said Pathan, who is running for the Bhiwandi West assembly seat.
The Bhiwandi West constituency is part of the Bhiwandi Lok Sabha area. Pathan will face BJP's Mahesh Choughule, who has held the seat since 2014. Confident in his support, Pathan said, “I believe the people of Bhiwandi will vote for me and send me to the Maharashtra Assembly. This is a decision made by our party, and I’m honored to represent them here.”
In addition to Pathan, AIMIM's Maharashtra Chief Imtiaz Jaleel has filed his nomination for the Aurangabad (East) seat.
