On Sunday evening, Tirupati’s ISKCON temple received a threatening email, claiming that the temple would be blown up by ISIS. The message further alleged that Pakistan’s ISI was involved in the plot. Alarmed by the threat, temple authorities promptly informed the police, who quickly arrived to investigate. Bomb squads and sniffer dogs swept the temple grounds, but no explosives were found, and the threat was declared a hoax.
The police are now investigating the source of the email to identify the sender. This email marks the fourth bomb threat hoax in Tirupati over just three days, heightening concern among locals and officials alike.
In addition to the temple, multiple hotels in Tirupati received similar threatening emails over the weekend. Each hotel that received a threat was evacuated, and police conducted extensive searches, but no explosive devices were discovered.
According to Tirupati’s East Police Circle Inspector, Srinivasulu, three hotels received bomb threats on Friday. An FIR has been filed, and police are working on identifying those behind these alarming emails. By Sunday, six hotels had received hoax bomb threats. Superintendent of Police L Subbarayudu assured the public that police responded swiftly, taking each threat seriously and ensuring thorough checks before declaring the threats baseless.
State police have activated their cybercrime unit to trace the source of the emails. Interestingly, the threats to some hotels mentioned a connection to Jaffer Sadiq, a drug trafficking figure recently apprehended by the Narcotics Control Bureau and Enforcement Directorate in Tamil Nadu. Investigations into any possible link between the threats and ongoing drug crime probes are underway.
