Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won’t be attending the BRICS Summit in Russia after suffering a head injury at home. On medical advice, he’s been told to avoid long flights, but he’ll still join the summit virtually. Lula’s doctors said he can continue his usual duties, just without long-distance travel.
The BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is meeting from October 22-24 in Kazan, Russia. New members, like Egypt and Iran, are also joining the summit this year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that BRICS will play a big part in boosting the global economy. He also mentioned that the group is open to welcoming more new members. This summit is important for Russia as it shows the country’s strength despite Western sanctions and isolation due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Leaders from China, India, and the UAE have confirmed they will be attending the summit, which highlights BRICS’ growing power in global politics and trade.
