China has once again cautioned the European Union against holding separate discussions with electric vehicle (EV) companies while broader trade talks between China and the EU are ongoing. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce warned on Monday that conducting isolated negotiations with EV companies could “damage mutual trust” and disrupt the overall discussions.
This warning echoes one issued earlier in the month. However, this new statement comes just days after China and the EU agreed to continue exploring technical solutions that could avoid imposing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Both sides had previously committed to addressing pricing concerns rather than resorting to immediate tariff measures.
China’s Ministry of Commerce confirmed that the next stage of consultations is already underway. Last Friday, Beijing openly invited the EU negotiation team to visit China “as soon as possible” to continue the talks
