Engineer Rashid Vows Commitment to Kashmir's Rights and Peace Amid Surrender in Terror Funding Case

Engineer Rashid pledges his commitment to Kashmir’s peace and rights, denouncing violence, and calls for unity in dialogue amid his surrender in terror case.

Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, a Lok Sabha MP from Baramulla in North Kashmir, declared on Monday that he would "sacrifice his life" for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but would never surrender his mission for peace, development, and the rights of Kashmiris.

"Whether in jail or at home, my focus remains on the welfare of Kashmir and its people. We want peace, but with honor and dignity. I am ready to sacrifice everything for the public. We haven’t done anything wrong; justice will come to us," Rashid told ANI.

Rashid’s surrender follows the expiration of his interim bail in an ongoing terror-funding case under investigation by the NIA. He expressed firm support for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, promising to back him when he acts in Kashmir’s favor and oppose him if he does otherwise. "Wherever Omar works for Kashmir, I will support him. But, if he doesn't uphold Kashmiris’ rights, we will oppose him democratically," he said.

In a message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Rashid urged them not to fear his imprisonment, assuring that they would continue to push for their rights. "We are not afraid of fighting for peace and justice," he added, "We haven’t committed any crime, and I’m not worried about going to jail, though being away from my people is painful."

Rashid also condemned recent terror attacks in the region, calling for a united dialogue for peace. "We oppose violence; true peace can only come with justice, and justice requires all voices to come together for a solution," he said.

Rashid criticized political leaders like Farooq and Omar Abdullah, accusing them of inconsistency on issues like Pakistan and Article 370. He claimed, "They change their stance based on whether they're in power or not. They gained votes using Article 370, but now, they barely mention it. The time will come when people will see through these double standards."
