Farmer Leader Rakesh Tikait Suggests Salman Khan Should Apologize to Bishnoi Community to Ease Tensions
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has suggested that Bollywood star Salman Khan should apologize to the Bishnoi community to help settle tensions. Reports say that the Bishnoi gang, led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has threatened the actor’s life. Tikait, a key figure in the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), spoke about this issue at a farmers’ gathering called the “Mahapanchayat.” When asked by a reporter, Tikait responded, “If apologizing can solve a problem with the Bishnoi community, then why not? If Salman Khan made a mistake, whether on purpose or by accident, he loses nothing by apologizing.”
Beyond this issue, Tikait criticized the Uttar Pradesh government, claiming it has failed to keep its promise of free electricity for farmers. He accused the government of installing meters in farmers’ fields instead. “We don’t understand how free electricity is supposed to come through meters,” Tikait remarked after the Mahapanchayat in Mundera. He added that the government should include this plan in its 2027 manifesto if it plans to install meters in fields.
Tikait also highlighted problems with crop pricing in several regions. For example, he said that farmers in Jaunpur, Mirzapur, and Ballia are only getting about ₹1,200 per quintal for their paddy. He noted that similar issues affect maize farmers. “Farmers in Bihar alone have lost close to ₹1 lakh crore by selling crops at low rates,” he said. “This problem is happening everywhere, and it’s like the government wants people to become laborers instead of independent farmers.”
The farmer leader also criticized the Agniveer recruitment program, which brings young people into the military for short terms. Tikait suggested that many of these recruits would end up working as security guards, as he claims some big business groups need thousands of guards. He said, “This country is shifting from being agriculture-based to labor-based, and Agniveers might end up as guards to meet these demands.”
