Hoax Bomb Threats Hit 10 Rajkot Hotels; Police Sweep Locations

On Saturday afternoon, ten hotels in Rajkot, Gujarat, received terrifying bomb threats via email. The emails arrived around 12:45 pm, each containing an alarming message. The sender, who called himself “Kan Den,” claimed to have placed bombs across each hotel, warning, “I placed bombs in every location of your hotel. The bombs will go off in a few hours. Many innocent lives will be lost today. Hurry up and evacuate the hotel.”

Police and bomb disposal squads quickly mobilized to secure each site, working methodically to ensure safety. After nearly five hours of searching, police confirmed no bombs or suspicious items were found. Inspector SM Jadeja, from the Special Operations Group (SOG), stated that the search was thorough and that the threat had been a hoax. Efforts are now underway to locate the source of the emails and bring those responsible to justice.

Ongoing Hoax Threats Target Indian Flights

This isn’t the only instance of fake bomb threats disrupting public safety. Over the last 12 days, hoax threats have targeted more than 275 flights by Indian carriers, mainly through social media. Just on Friday, more than 25 flights, both domestic and international, were affected. Although all planes landed safely, these threats caused serious disruptions, with some international flights diverted to Canada and Germany and fighter jets deployed to accompany planes over the UK and Singapore.

Government Pushes for Stricter Social Media Monitoring

In light of these escalating threats, the Indian government has reminded social media platforms about their duty to monitor content under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. This law requires platforms to report any posts threatening the country's unity or safety and mandates that they provide necessary information to authorities within 72 hours to assist in investigations.
