The Hyderabad Police have imposed a ban on public gatherings, protests, and processions in Hyderabad and Secunderabad until November 28. This decision, announced on Monday by Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, aims to maintain peace as the festive season begins.
According to the police order, no groups or individuals are allowed to gather or display symbols, flags, or messages that might disturb public order. Peaceful protests are only allowed at the designated Indira Park Dharna Chowk. Violations, especially around sensitive locations like the Secretariat, may lead to prosecution.
These restrictions will be in effect from 6 PM on October 27 until 6 PM on November 28. The police also clarified that the rule does not apply to law enforcement officials, military personnel, funeral processions, or authorized groups.
The announcement came just before major festivals, including Diwali, Dhanteras, and Govardhan Puja. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the restrictions, suggesting that the Congress-led state government might be trying to limit Hindu festival celebrations. BJP’s Andhra Pradesh Vice President Vishnu Vardhan Reddy expressed his disagreement on social media, stating, "First, Congress imposed Section 144 in Hyderabad before Diwali, restricting gatherings, and then mocked Hindus with an inappropriate Diwali message."
BJP’s Telangana treasurer Shanthikumar also opposed the order, stating that these restrictions are unfairly limiting Hindu celebrations.
