India and Germany: Strong Allies in a World Full of Uncertainty, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the partnership between India and Germany as a "strong anchor" in today's world, which faces many challenges, including conflicts, tensions, and uncertainty.

On Friday, Modi met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during the Seventh Inter-Governmental Consultations, where they discussed the close relationship between India and Germany. Modi highlighted that this partnership is about collaboration between two strong democracies working together to make positive changes in the world, rather than just an exchange of benefits.

Why India-Germany Relations Matter Right Now

According to PM Modi, the world is facing uncertain times, especially in areas like the Indo-Pacific, where countries are worried about maintaining peace, respecting laws, and ensuring freedom for ships and trade. In this context, he sees India and Germany's bond as a steady support, helping each other navigate these challenging times.

"This partnership with Germany has become a reliable anchor," Modi said, acknowledging Scholz's third visit to India, which he referred to as part of a "triple celebration" of their growing friendship.

Growing Areas of Cooperation

Reflecting on progress since the last meeting in 2022, Modi shared that India and Germany have strengthened cooperation in critical areas such as:

  • Defense: Working together to enhance security.
  • Technology: Sharing advancements to benefit both countries.
  • Energy: Focusing on clean, sustainable solutions.
  • Green Development: Prioritizing eco-friendly growth.

These areas of cooperation, Modi explained, represent a deep level of trust between the two nations.

Germany’s New “Focus on India” Strategy

Modi welcomed Germany's new approach, called “Focus on India,” to expand the relationship beyond just government talks. He noted that the two countries are moving towards a “Whole of Nation” approach, involving citizens, businesses, and other sectors to strengthen the bond further.

A Long-Standing Framework for Growth

The Inter-Governmental Consultation (IGC) framework, started in 2011, allows India and Germany to regularly review their cooperation and find new areas for collaboration. This year’s discussions reinforced the commitment to keep building on this partnership.

In summary, PM Modi emphasized that India's partnership with Germany is more important than ever as the world faces various challenges. By working together on security, technology, and sustainable development, both countries are setting an example of strong democratic partnership in a complex world.
