During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 16th BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed India’s commitment to promoting peace. Modi emphasized that peaceful dialogue is the only way to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In his speech, the Prime Minister stated that India is closely following the situation and is willing to help find a peaceful solution. He said, "I’ve been in regular contact with you about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. As I’ve said before, we believe peace is the only lasting solution. India will do everything it can to support peace and stability."
Modi highlighted that India’s approach prioritizes humanity and is ready to offer any help necessary to support peace talks.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister arrived in Kazan, Russia, for the two-day BRICS Summit, which brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The summit is happening at a time when Russia’s conflict with Ukraine is still ongoing, and it shows the growing influence of non-Western countries like India.
This is the first BRICS summit since the group expanded to include new members like Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the UAE.
During his visit, Modi also mentioned India’s plan to open two new consulates in Russia — one in Kazan and another in Yekaterinburg. These new consulates are expected to boost India-Russia relations by encouraging more trade and travel between the two nations.
The Prime Minister thanked Russia for hosting the summit and noted how the success of BRICS has drawn attention from Western nations.
