The Karnataka government, led by the Congress party, has decided to ban the use of firecrackers during Diwali. This was announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday. He stated that only eco-friendly "green crackers" will be allowed for sale in the state this Deepavali.
During a meeting with district deputy commissioners, Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of ensuring that no injuries or accidents occur due to firecrackers.
“With Diwali approaching, it’s important to follow the Supreme Court's guidelines on firecrackers. Only green crackers can be sold, and they should only be used from 8 PM to 10 PM,” he told reporters after the meeting.
Deputy commissioners have been instructed to inspect shops selling firecrackers.
“They must take action against shopkeepers selling non-green crackers, not following safety rules, or lacking proper storage for firecrackers,” the Chief Minister explained.
Siddaramaiah stressed the need to protect the environment and said, “I have also told the deputy commissioners that there should be no harm, injuries, or deaths due to firecrackers in their areas."
