Lawrence Bishnoi's Family Spends ₹40 Lakh a Year on Him in Jail, Says Cousin

Lawrence Bishnoi's family spends around ₹35-40 lakh every year to take care of him while he is in jail, his cousin revealed.

Ramesh Bishnoi, who is 50 years old, said the family never thought that 31-year-old Lawrence, a law graduate from Panjab University, would turn into a criminal. He mentioned that they have always been rich. Lawrence’s father was a police constable in Haryana and owns 110 acres of land in their village. Lawrence always wore expensive clothes and shoes. Even now, the family spends a lot of money, about ₹35-40 lakh each year, on him in jail, Ramesh told The Indian Express.

Lawrence was born in Firozpur, Punjab, but got the name ‘Lawrence’ during his school days because his aunt suggested it sounded better than his real name, Balkaran Brar.

Lawrence Bishnoi’s name has been connected to several major crimes. Recently, a politician named Baba Siddique, who was close friends with Bollywood actor Salman Khan, was killed in Mumbai. Lawrence’s gang is believed to be involved, and Siddique's friendship with Khan might have played a part in his murder.

Earlier, in May 2022, famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was also shot dead, allegedly by people from Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.

Lawrence is currently in Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He is being investigated by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for several cases. In August 2023, the Indian government decided not to allow him to leave the jail for any reason, and this order was extended for another year.

In addition, Canadian police recently accused Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang of doing violent activities in Canada with the help of people connected to the Indian government, a claim that India has denied.
