Leopard Attacks Picnickers in MP After They Taunt It, 3 Injured

A fun picnic turned into a nightmare in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district when a leopard attacked a group of friends on October 20. Three people were injured, two of them suffering serious head wounds, after they spotted the leopard hiding in the bushes.

The group of around 50 picnickers, enjoying their time by the riverside in Khitauli village, about 150 km from Jabalpur, made a dangerous mistake. A video shared online shows some of them shouting “aa jaa, aa jaa” (come here, come here) at the big cat, trying to provoke it.

But their laughter quickly turned to terror. In seconds, the angry leopard charged at them, pouncing on one man and injuring two others. Panic spread as the group desperately screamed “bhaag” (run), trying to escape.

The injured picnickers have been identified as Nitin Samdariya, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Shahdol police, and Akash Kushwaha and Nandini Singh, both from Shahdol town.

Local forest official Badshah Rawat revealed that a recent advisory had warned people to stay out of the forest after a tiger attack in the same area. “We had already told people to avoid the forest. A control room has been set up to help manage such incidents,” Rawat told NDTV.
