On Monday, one terrorist was killed after a fierce counter-terror operation was launched to neutralize a group of attackers targeting an Indian Army convoy in the Akhnoor area of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the White Knight Corps in Jammu, "The body of one terrorist along with a weapon has been recovered. Operations are ongoing."
The encounter began early Monday around 6:30 am when three armed terrorists ambushed an army convoy, damaging a forces’ ambulance the most. The terrorists retreated to a nearby forest as the Army responded. Later, they were tracked to a basement hideout. Special forces, including the National Security Guards (NSG), moved in, sparking loud explosions and intense gunfire by 2:45 pm. A helicopter was deployed for aerial surveillance.
This incident comes close on the heels of other recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. On October 24, terrorists killed two porters working with the Army and injured four, including three soldiers, near Gulmarg. Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his concerns on X, calling the recent wave of attacks in Kashmir “a serious matter.” Days earlier, on October 20, a terror strike at a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh highway left a doctor and six laborers dead.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemned these attacks, stating, “The despicable terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, will be met with the harshest response from our security forces."
