Pakistan to Spend PKR 1 Crore on Rebuilding Hindu Temple in Punjab

Pakistan has set aside 10 million rupees (PKR 1 crore) to rebuild the Baoli Sahib Hindu temple in Zafarwal, Punjab. This temple, which has been inactive for 64 years, will soon be restored to serve the local Hindu community of Narowal, which has more than 1,400 people. Right now, there is no functioning temple in the district, so Hindus have to travel to other cities like Sialkot and Lahore to worship.

The restoration project is led by the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), which takes care of minority religious places. This marks the first step toward bringing the temple back to life after it closed down in 1960.

A Much-Needed Place of Worship

The Pak Dharamsthan Committee has been working for 20 years to get the temple rebuilt. Once the temple and its surrounding wall are finished, the temple will be handed over to this committee.

Important figures, like Shoaib Siddal from the Supreme Court’s One Man Commission and Manzoor Masih from the National Commission of Human Rights, have been pushing for this project. Their efforts will finally give the local Hindu community a place to practice their faith closer to home.

Sawan Chand, president of the Pak Dharamsthan Committee, said this has been a long-awaited wish for the Hindu community. Most Hindus in Pakistan live in the Sindh province, but the restoration of this temple will bring relief to the Hindus in Punjab.

According to the official numbers, there are about 7.5 million Hindus in Pakistan, though the community believes the number is closer to 9 million. This project is a big step towards helping them practice their religion freely.
