Rapido Teams Up with IndoFast Energy to Launch 10,000 Piaggio E-Three Wheelers Across India

Ride-hailing platform Rapido has joined hands with IndoFast Energy to bring 10,000 electric three-wheelers to cities across India in the next two years. These e-rickshaws, known as Piaggio's E-city Max, will have swappable batteries, making them super convenient for quick charging and longer trips.

Where It’s Starting
The rollout will begin in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and other major cities in South India. By the end of 2024, over 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) will be part of the public transport system.

Why It Matters
"This partnership with IndoFast Energy helps us expand our EV options, staying true to our commitment to being more eco-friendly," said Pavan Guntupalli, co-founder of Rapido.

The partnership is not stopping with just e-rickshaws. Rapido and IndoFast Energy are also exploring adding high-speed electric two-wheelers and retrofitted three-wheelers to the platform, giving riders even more sustainable options.

Who’s Behind the Tech?
IndoFast Energy, which offers battery-as-a-service (BaaS) solutions, is a joint venture between IOCL and SUN Mobility. Anant Badjatya, CEO of IndoFast Energy, said, "This big rollout is based on the success of the pilot program we started with Rapido a year ago. We are now speeding up the process to launch these EVs in cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Chennai."

Piaggio’s Role
Diego Graffi, Chairman and MD of Piaggio Vehicles, said this collaboration will make a major contribution to India's electric vehicle movement while promoting the benefits of battery-swapping technology.
