"Rohit Sharma: India Needs to Improve Batting Against Spin to Win Tests"

Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged that his team did not perform well in the first innings of the Pune Test, leading to a significant loss against New Zealand. This defeat marked India's first home Test series loss in 12 years and raised concerns about the team's batting against spin bowlers.

Rohit explained, "We didn’t bat well in the first innings. Scoring only 156 runs put us over 100 runs behind, making it hard to catch up. The pitch was not bad; we just didn’t play well enough."

He highlighted the importance of scoring runs to put pressure on the bowlers. The captain noted that New Zealand's batters used different techniques, like the sweep and reverse sweep, to manage the spin effectively. He said, “We need to find ways to score runs, especially on tricky pitches. It’s important to keep the bowlers guessing.”

Rohit also defended his star spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, saying they faced too much pressure to always take wickets. He stated, “There are high expectations from them, but it’s unfair to put all the blame on them. Everyone in the bowling team needs to step up when one player struggles."

Despite the loss, Rohit emphasized the need for stability in the team and urged fans not to panic. "We are allowed to have one bad series after so many years of success. We need to stay calm and adjust our playing style instead of changing everything."

The Indian captain praised Washington Sundar's performance in the match and acknowledged the challenge posed by New Zealand's bowlers. He concluded, “We have played great cricket in the last few years. Sometimes, the opposing team plays better, and that's how cricket goes.”
