Rohit Sharma Wants to Be Careful with Rishabh Pant's Injury

BENGALURU: Rishabh Pant was in a terrible car accident in December 2022, which left him injured and needing a lot of time for recovery. It kept him away from cricket for over a year and a half. Now that he's making a strong comeback, the team is being very careful with how much work he does.

Rohit Sharma shared that as a precaution, Pant didn’t keep wickets (stand behind the stumps) on the final day, even though he batted in India's second innings and played an amazing knock of 99 runs.

"He had a major surgery. We need to be careful about his condition and how important he is for us. Even while he was batting, he wasn’t running comfortably and was mostly trying to hit the ball out of the ground. When you’re keeping wickets, you have to bend your knees every ball, and since the pitch was difficult, we thought it was better for him to rest and get fully ready for the next game."

Rohit also emphasized that the team needs to handle Pant's recovery with extra care. "He has had many small surgeries and one major surgery on his knee. He’s been through a lot."

Rohit also talked about Pant’s unique style of playing. "To be honest, no one really knows what’s going on in his mind," Rohit said. "He makes his own decisions about how he wants to play. We give him the freedom to do that because he has done well with that approach. Before the second innings, we just reminded him to understand the situation, but he likes to play his way, and we support that."
