On Sunday, six IndiGo flights heading to Bengaluru received bomb threats through an anonymous post on X (formerly Twitter). The post claimed that there were two bombers on each plane. This is the latest in a series of threats, with almost 200 similar incidents reported in just a week, according to The Indian Express.
However, a police officer who spoke about the threats called them "non-specific". While IndiGo didn’t file a formal complaint, the airline did carry out an internal review and decided that no immediate searches of the planes were needed.
Previous Threats
This is the second time in a week that bomb threats have targeted Bengaluru flights. On October 15, a user with the handle @schizobomber777 had posted a similar threat on X. On Sunday, threats were made again, this time from the account @schizophreniqqq, which was later suspended by the platform.
Flights Affected
Due to the threats, one flight was diverted and others had to declare emergencies, causing disruption and concern among passengers.
Recent Hoaxes in Bengaluru
Last week, Bengaluru police arrested Dipanjan Mitra from Darjeeling, West Bengal, for sending bomb threats to three engineering colleges in the city. Bengaluru has seen a worrying rise in hoax bomb threats lately, affecting schools, public places, and even the Kempegowda International Airport.
The hoaxes, including emails and phone calls, have created panic and are causing major disruptions, leaving both residents and officials on edge.
In short, while these threats have been deemed fake, they are causing real problems for everyone involved. Stay safe and stay informed!
