Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Tuesday that he and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol have agreed to increase cooperation to tackle North Korea’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict. This agreement aims to bring closer communication and coordinated strategies at all levels of government.
The announcement followed a phone call between the leaders, which Zelenskiy shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The leaders agreed to boost intelligence sharing and exchange expertise to respond effectively to North Korea’s growing presence in the conflict.
As part of this collaboration, Ukraine and South Korea will soon send delegations to each other to plan joint actions. Zelenskiy mentioned that North Korea has sent around 3,000 troops to Russian training sites near the combat zone, with this number expected to grow to nearly 12,000.
“Our countries have decided to strengthen the exchange of intelligence and deepen cooperation to create a strategy against this escalation,” Zelenskiy said. “We’re also engaging our mutual allies for further support.”
With North Korea’s increasing involvement, Ukraine and South Korea are set to take joint steps to ensure stability and gather more allies to counter the escalation.
