U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken landed in Israel on Tuesday to meet with Israeli leaders and push for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict. This is Blinken’s 11th visit to the region since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, following Hamas' attack on southern Israel.
As Israel’s military intensifies its strikes on Gaza and Lebanon, Blinken is set to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and other top officials. His visit is part of a week-long Middle East tour that will also take him to Jordan and Qatar. The goal is to revive ceasefire talks, but so far, diplomatic efforts haven’t been able to stop the fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza or the clashes with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
On Tuesday morning, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing rockets at two Israeli military bases near Tel Aviv and a naval base near Haifa, further escalating the violence.
