Several people were injured after suspected militants threw a grenade in a crowded Sunday market near Srinagar’s Tourist Reception Centre (TRC). According to officials, at least six people were rushed to the hospital with splinter injuries.
The attack happened in a high-security zone, causing chaos and panic as shoppers fled. Militants reportedly tossed the grenade into the market, which then exploded with a loud bang.
Jammu & Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the attack "deeply disturbing." He said, “The past few days have been full of news about attacks and encounters across the valley. The grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the Sunday market is truly upsetting. There is no excuse for harming innocent people.” He added that security forces must take all steps to stop this wave of attacks so that people can live without fear.
This attack, near the heavily guarded Tourist Reception Centre, happened just a day after security forces eliminated a top Pakistani commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Khanyar area of downtown Srinagar.
