India Clinches Final Spot with 2-0 Victory Over Japan

Defending champions India kept their winning streak alive by defeating Japan 2-0 in the semifinals of the women’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Rajgir on November 19, 2024. Navneet Kaur, the vice-captain, scored from a penalty stroke in the 48th minute. Later, in the 56th minute, Lalaremsiami added another goal from regular play.

India created many chances to score, including 13 penalty corners! They will now play against China in the final match on Wednesday. In the other semifinal, China won against Malaysia with a score of 3-1.

Malaysia will play Japan for third place, while Korea secured fifth place after beating Thailand 3-0. Throughout the game, India was on the offensive, putting pressure on the Japanese defense right from the start.

India’s first shot on goal came within the first five minutes, but Japan’s goalkeeper Yu Kudo made a good save. The Indian team kept attacking, earning several penalty corners, but Kudo was quick to block their attempts. In the second quarter, India got three penalty corners in a row but could not score. They kept getting more chances, and at one point in the 21st minute, Deepika had a chance, but Kudo made an amazing save.
