India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, met with Thailand's Foreign Minister, Maris Sangiampongsa, in New Delhi on Saturday. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen India-Thailand relations, regional developments, and multilateral cooperation.
Jaishankar took to X (formerly Twitter) to share moments from their meeting and emphasized that Sangiampongsa’s visit for the Royal Kathina ceremony highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between India and Thailand.
"Delighted to meet FM @AmbPoohMaris of Thailand in Delhi. His visit for the Royal Kathina ceremony exemplifies the longstanding historical and cultural relations between our two countries," Jaishankar wrote, adding that they discussed India-Thailand ties, broader regional issues, and multilateral partnerships. The Royal Kathina is an important Buddhist ceremony and reflects the shared cultural heritage of the two nations.
This visit follows Sangiampongsa’s first official trip to India from July 11-13, when he attended the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers' Retreat in New Delhi. During that visit, the ministers reviewed their progress on key projects and discussed closer collaboration in various areas.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, both leaders share a vision of strong India-Thailand cooperation, especially in the ASEAN region. India’s ‘Act East’ policy aligns closely with Thailand’s ‘Act West’ policy, and these interactions further deepen India-Thailand relations.
Thailand remains a crucial partner for India in ASEAN, as the two countries work together for stability and growth in the region.
