Lawyers to Strike After Violent Clash with Police in Ghaziabad Courtroom
On October 29, 2024, a tense situation erupted in a Ghaziabad courtroom as lawyers clashed with baton-wielding police officers. The confrontation began after a judge called the police to remove a group of lawyers who were protesting and raising slogans against him over a disagreement. What started as a peaceful protest quickly turned violent, with some lawyers claiming they were injured after being struck by police batons.

In response, a committee representing all Delhi bar associations held an emergency meeting on Sunday, November 3, 2024. They unanimously resolved to go on strike on Monday, November 4, to protest the alleged police brutality against the lawyers.

The committee, led by general secretary Atul Kumar Sharma, condemned the violence and urged all lawyers to abstain from work as a show of solidarity with their peers. "This brutal attack on an innocent lawyer cannot be tolerated. We stand united in demanding justice and accountability," the committee said in a statement. They called on all legal professionals to raise their voices against this injustice and protest the actions of the police.

Some police officials also alleged that the agitating lawyers set a local police outpost on fire during the clash.
