With Maharashtra assembly elections just weeks away, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde discussed the Mahayuti’s (ruling coalition's) campaign, recent welfare schemes, and accusations from the opposition. Shinde emphasized how the government’s initiatives like the "Ladki Bahin Yojana," which gives ₹1500 to women from low-income families, are designed to help people across all backgrounds. He accused the opposition of merely "copy-pasting" their welfare schemes after criticizing them.
How Mahayuti Improved After Lok Sabha Loss Reflecting on their losses in the Lok Sabha elections, Shinde said the coalition learned from its mistakes and is now focused on public welfare. He criticized the opposition for spreading "false stories" about changes to the Constitution and reservations, which he says confused voters. Shinde claims that the people now see through the opposition's tactics and trust Mahayuti's commitment to development and welfare.
Plans to Boost Infrastructure and Welfare Shinde highlighted that several halted projects, including the Jalyukt Shivar water project and the Coastal Road, are back on track. The government has also prioritized benefits for the middle class, including tax-free tolls for small vehicles in Mumbai and improved health insurance for families.
On Maratha and Dhangar Reservations Addressing the demands from Maratha and Dhangar communities, Shinde said the government is working within legal limits. While Marathas are being given “Kunbi” certificates to access reservations, the Dhangar community’s status is under review by a special committee. Shinde assured that the reservations of other communities, including tribals, will remain untouched.
Responding to Criticism from Raj and Uddhav Thackeray Raj Thackeray recently accused Shinde of dividing the Shiv Sena. Shinde dismissed this as “election talk,” saying he saved the original Shiv Sena's symbol and values. He also downplayed Uddhav Thackeray’s bid for the Chief Minister position, suggesting that he lacks the full support of his alliance.
Crime Rate and Safety Measures The opposition raised concerns over the state’s crime rates, but Shinde emphasized that the government is strict on crime reporting and has a high conviction rate. Under the new "Surakshit Bahin Yojana," 25,000 women will be recruited for the police force to enhance women’s safety in Maharashtra.
As election day nears, Shinde reiterated that his main focus is serving the people rather than worrying about political rivalries.
