Pakistan Stands Firm in Protecting Chinese Nationals

Pakistan's Commitment to Chinese Safety Amid Recent Attacks

On Thursday, Pakistan announced it will keep working with China to ensure the safety of Chinese people and their projects in the country. Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, said there were no plans for China to take control of security efforts in Pakistan after attacks on Chinese individuals.

China recently expressed support for Pakistan in fighting against terrorism to keep its citizens safe. This statement came after two Chinese people were hurt in an incident on November 5, when a local security guard shot at them during an argument in Karachi, Sindh province.

During her weekly press briefing, Baloch stressed that Pakistan and China are close partners and talk regularly about various issues, including how to keep Chinese nationals safe. She highlighted that their relationship is built on respect and cooperation. “As best friends and strategic partners, we are determined to protect our bond and will not let anything harm it,” she stated.

Baloch dismissed rumors that China was forcing Pakistan to change its security plans, calling such reports “speculation aimed at causing confusion.” She advised the media to be more careful about the sources of their information.

She also called on Afghan authorities to take action against terrorist groups and not let them use Afghanistan to harm Pakistan or its neighbors. “Afghanistan needs to listen to our concerns,” she added.

Many Chinese workers are currently in Pakistan, taking part in projects linked to the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The shooting on November 5 was the third violent incident involving Chinese or foreign nationals in Karachi this year. In October, two Chinese engineers were killed in a suicide bombing near Karachi airport, and in April, five Japanese workers escaped an attack by a suicide bomber
