Suryakumar Yadav to Lead India Against South Africa in T20I Series

Suryakumar Yadav will captain the Indian team in their upcoming four-match T20I series against South Africa, starting Friday, November 8. After India’s recent 0-3 loss to New Zealand in the Test series, the team is eager for a strong comeback.

Though Suryakumar did not play in the Test series against New Zealand, he has made it clear he is ready for more opportunities in Tests. Suryakumar shared that he has been participating in both red-ball and white-ball domestic games to stay prepared for a Test return. “When the time comes, I will make my Test comeback. I don’t miss any games,” he said.

Suryakumar’s Test Ambitions and Rohit Sharma’s Influence
Suryakumar has played just one Test match, which was against Australia in 2023. He scored eight runs in his only innings, and he was also a reserve player for India in the World Test Championship final that same year. Speaking about India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma, he praised Rohit’s consistency and character, saying, “Whether he scores big or not, Rohit’s character stays the same. That’s a quality all sportsmen should have.”

Suryakumar’s Impressive Domestic Career
In first-class cricket, Suryakumar has played 84 matches, scoring 5,656 runs at an average of 42.84. His domestic record includes 14 centuries, 29 half-centuries, and a career-high score of 200. He briefly captained Mumbai in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season, scoring 690 runs in 10 matches before being replaced mid-season. He was also a key player when Mumbai won the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, scoring 788 runs that season, including a crucial 115-run innings in the semi-final against Madhya Pradesh.

Suryakumar’s steady performance and strong leadership have made him a fan favorite, and now he’s ready to prove himself as a leader in the T20 series against South Africa.
