The Israeli military announced on Monday, November 4, 2024, that it had killed a top Hezbollah commander, Abu Ali Rida, in an airstrike in southern Lebanon. Rida, who led operations in the Baraachit region, was accused of planning and launching rocket and anti-tank missile attacks against Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops.
According to the IDF, Rida was in charge of Hezbollah's terrorist activities in the area, and his elimination is part of Israel's ongoing campaign to neutralize Hezbollah targets. The military did not specify when the airstrike took place.
Since the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in late September, Israel has intensified its strikes on the group’s leaders and commanders, including the former Hezbollah chief, Hassan Nasrallah. The conflict escalated after nearly a year of cross-border attacks, with Hezbollah regularly firing rockets into northern Israel in support of Hamas, its ally in Gaza.
The war in Gaza, Israel's deadliest conflict with Hamas, erupted after Hamas launched a large-scale attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year.
