On Monday, Rahman shared several pictures with Zakir on Instagram, adding flower and prayer emojis to show his respect. Earlier, on his X account, Rahman talked about how important Zakir was to music. He said losing Zakir is a huge loss and mentioned that Zakir inspired millions.
Rahman wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Zakir Bhai was an inspiration, a giant in the music world who made the tabla well-known everywhere. We all feel this loss deeply.” Rahman also shared his regret that they could not work together on an album they had planned.
Zakir Hussain, who was battling a lung disease, died in San Francisco. He was a major figure in Indian classical music and one of the most recognized percussionists in the world. His family confirmed the sad news.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his grief on X. He described Zakir as a genius who changed the face of Indian classical music and made the tabla famous around the world. “Deeply saddened by the passing of Ustad Zakir Hussain Ji. He brought Indian music to the global stage.”
PM Modi noted that Zakir’s amazing performances and beautiful music would inspire many future musicians and music lovers. He extended his heartfelt condolences to Zakir’s family and fans all over the world. Zakir passed away at 73, leaving a remarkable legacy that crosses all kinds of music and cultures.
