Payal Kapadia’s Film Shines with 2 Golden Globe Nominations!

New Delhi: Film makers Hansal Mehta, Kiran Rao, and actor Anil Kapoor celebrated director Payal Kapadia after her promising film “All We Imagine As Light” got two nominations at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards. This Malayalam-Hindi film is Kapadia’s first full-length feature and has been nominated for Best Motion Picture Non-English Language and Best Direction – Motion Picture.

Previously, “All We Imagine…” made history by being the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The story follows two nurses, Prabha and Anu, from Kerala who explore life and love in Mumbai, along with their friend and cook, Parvaty.

Mehta, who has supported the film as India’s “official selection for the Oscars,” shared the exciting news on social media after the nominations were announced. He humorously remarked about the nominations, while Rao excitedly said, “Christmas has come early this year!”

Actor Anil Kapoor expressed pride in Kapadia, calling the nominations a huge recognition for Indian cinema. Rana Daggubati, involved in the film’s distribution, also shared the news cheerfully on social media.

After receiving the nomination for Best Motion Picture Non-English Language, the film’s Instagram page expressed gratitude for being considered alongside other great films. Competing with Kapadia in the Best Direction category are other directors, including Brady Corbet and Sean Baker, known for his prize-winning film “Anora.”

“All We Imagine…” has been on a winning streak since it bagged the Cannes Grand Prix, and it was also honored at the Gotham Awards and the New York Film Critics Circle. The film aims to continue its success at the Golden Globes, which will be held on January 5, 2025, in Los Angeles and can be watched live in India on Lionsgate Play.
