Kangana Ranaut, a talented actor and filmmaker, shared the trailer for her new movie “Emergency” on Monday. She said the journey to make this political drama has been long and filled with challenges. In the film, Kangana plays Indira Gandhi, who was the Prime Minister of India. “Emergency” was supposed to come out on September 6, 2024, but it didn’t because it didn’t get the necessary approval from the Central Board of Film Certification.
The film faced some trouble because some Sikh groups, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, claimed it didn’t accurately represent their community. Despite these challenges, Kangana, who also directs and produces the film, is excited to announce that “Emergency” will now be released on January 17.
Kangana said, “I’m really happy that our film ‘Emergency’ will finally be shown to everyone on January 17. This story is not just about a controversial leader; it looks at important themes that are still relevant today, making it a tough but meaningful journey.” She thinks it’s the right time to release the film just before Republic Day, as it can help people think about the strength of our Constitution while watching it with family and friends.
In her post on X, Kangana wrote: “1975, Emergency – A key moment in Indian History. Indira: India’s strongest woman. Her ambition changed the country, but her Emergency led to chaos.”
“Emergency” tells the story of the 21-month period when Indira Gandhi declared an emergency in India from 1975 to 1977 and what happened after. Producer Umesh KR Bansal added, “As we remember 50 years since the 1975 Emergency, this film is a look back at our democracy and honors those who fought to protect it. ‘Emergency’ is an important movie that makes people think and remember the cost of freedom.”
The film also features Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as a young Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Mahima Choudhary as Pupul Jayakar, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram. “Emergency” is produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films.
