The Indian film industry is sad after the passing of famous actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who died at the age of 87. He was known as ‘Bharat Kumar’ because he often played roles that showed his love for the country. Manoj passed away at 4:03 am on Friday at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.
His son, Kunal Goswami, shared that Manoj’s last rites will be held on Saturday at 11 am at Pawan Hans, near Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle. Kunal thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending his condolences, mentioning how Manoj’s films like Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, and Roti Kapada Aur Makaan still matter today.
Manoj’s cousin, Manish R Goswami, called him “a true Indian” who made movies focused on the country. He noted that Manoj and PM Modi had met at awards before and shared special moments when Modi visited Mumbai.
In a touching tweet, PM Modi said he was very sad about Manoj’s passing, calling him a patriotic icon of Indian cinema and mentioning how his movies sparked national pride. PM Modi sent his thoughts to Manoj’s family during this tough time.
Manoj Kumar died from health issues, including heart problems and liver disease. He had been in the hospital since February 21, 2025.
During his lifetime, Manoj received many awards for his work, such as the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015. He also won seven Filmfare Awards.
His films celebrated important values like love for the country, honesty, and unity among people. Today, his work still inspires many filmmakers, actors, and movie lovers.
