Neil Nitin Mukesh: Talent is Key, Not Nepotism in Bollywood

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh recently spoke about the hot topic of nepotism in Bollywood. He believes that an artist’s success really comes down to their talent, not family connections. In an interview with ANI, he mentioned, “If nepotism really helped, I’d be more successful by now.” He also noted that “nepo kids,” or those from famous families, are often highlighted in the industry.

Neil shared a thought-provoking comparison, saying that just because someone’s parent is a doctor doesn’t mean they should automatically become one too. He emphasized, “If my daughter wants to act someday, she must learn from me, but I can’t just hand over my skills like a business.”

He stated that every artist must create their own identity through their work. Even though Neil’s father is a famous singer and his grandfather was also a well-known artist, he explained that being in the spotlight can be tough. “I have to prove myself after every film,” he said.

Neil highlighted that being a star’s child brings extra pressure because people always compare him to his father and grandfather. He praised actors like Kartik Aaryan, Rajkummar Rao, and Vikrant Massey, who have no famous connections yet succeeded because of their talent.

Despite working for 20 years and collaborating with top directors, Neil still experiences challenges in finding new roles. But rather than fearing these challenges, he embraces them. “If it was just about being a ‘nepo kid,’ that would have been easy,” he concluded.

Neil has appeared in movies like New York (2009), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Golmaal Again (2017), and Saaho (2019). His latest film, Hisaab Barabar, which deals with corruption, was released in January this year.
